Ocular have identified a product gap for small to medium sized business. The confusion surrounding getting online and creating an effective presence and the vast range of pricing options leaves many business owners dazed and confused. In particular we identified that businesses are unclear about:

• Domain names - who owns the name? how do I buy it? what if I move to another designer?
• Hosting - what is the regular ongoing cost?
• Email - how do I get an email address? how much does it cost?
• Design - what is the design cost? does this get me a finished website online?
• Updates - what are the ongoing costs of updating the website?
• ISPs -what happens if I change my Internet Service Provider?
• Content - how much does each page cost? what can I put in it?
• Upgrades - what about online shopping? search? or blogs?
• Search Engines - how do people find my site? what are keywords and metadata?

Ocular have built a relationship with YARE limited Ocular to create a product that removes the confusion and sets a benchmark for SME websites. For a one-off charge the SME gets a 10 page static website, with 5 email addresses, a .nz domain name (.co.nz, .org.nz, etc) and an extra 10Mb of web hosting space for images and files. The website is developed into a shared Content Management System (CMS) which allows the site owner to access and change their own content online using a web browser and their standard internet connection. There is an ongoing low monthly charge for hosting the website.
